I am pleased to welcome you to the department of Science of Dental Materials, which is not only involved in teaching undergraduate students of 2nd year BDS, but also running a postgraduate M.Phil. program (since its inception in the year 2012).

It is an honour for me to head this department for the last 12 years. During this course of time, we have continuously improved facilities and equipment required for research. The Department of Science of Dental Materials includes a team of experienced and dedicated teachers. Department not only provides excellent laboratory facilities to train undergraduate students, but it also has well-equipped postgraduate biomaterials lab to carry out basic in-vitro experiments. 

In term of post grade M.Phil. programme, it is a great honour for me, to proclaim that the department has produced more than 20 M.Phil. graduates in the last 9 years and published 25 high impact factor and many local publications. At this point of time, we are in collaboration with various institutes which include IRCBM Lahore, BMTC Rawalpindi and KRL, Quaid e Azam University, IST, PIAS, SCME/SMME (NUST) in Islamabad. In the end, I again extend a warm welcome to my future students to the department.

The Department of Science of Dental Materials is committed to teaching the undergraduate students during their second year of bachelor’s in dental surgery (BDS). Subject is taught in lectures, practicals, and small group discussion sessions, in which students are familiarized with the basic composition, properties and manipulative protocols of various dental biomaterials. 

Along with this, it is pertinent to add that this is only department in basic dental sciences at AM College, which is running an M.Phil. program in parallel. The faculty is actively involved in teaching not only undergraduate students but also post graduate students who are enrolled in M.Phil. Dental Materials. Through this program, the department is continuously engaged in multidisciplinary research in the field of dental biomaterials. Pivotal areas of research entail interactions of materials in the oral environment, the rehabilitation of tooth structures and regeneration of oral tissues.

The department is equipped with state-of-the art laboratories separately for UG and PG students. An integrated teaching curriculum is adapted by involving Pre-clinical Prosthetics and Operative Dentistry to train the students in various laboratory techniques for clinical handling of materials as per application.
