CREAM Lab

Introduction

The Center for Research and Applied Medicine (CREAM) at Army Medical College (AMC) is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing scientific inquiry and innovation in the fields of genetics and molecular biology. Established with the vision of integrating research excellence with medical education, CREAM serves as a dynamic hub for postgraduate training and skill development. The laboratory provides undergraduates, MPhil and PhD scholars with hands-on experience in advanced molecular techniques including PCR, gene expression analysis, electrophoresis, cell culture, and bioinformatics-based molecular investigations.

Through its well-equipped infrastructure and experienced faculty, CREAM fosters an environment conducive to discovery and innovation, encouraging students and researchers to explore molecular mechanisms underlying disease processes. Over the years, several research projects: particularly SNP-based studies on diabetes, dyslipidemia, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have been successfully undertaken at the center, resulting in publications in reputed impact factor journals. The center also conducts molecular biology workshops and training sessions, bridging the gap between theory and application while strengthening research capacity in Pakistan.

Looking ahead, the center holds great promise for further development and multidisciplinary collaboration. Future plans could include the establishment of a dedicated genetic testing facility, advanced PCR and sequencing platforms, and a molecular diagnostics unit, which would strengthen its capacity to support both academic and clinical research. Building partnerships with other academic and research institutions will further enhance its impact, positioning CREAM as a leading center for molecular medicine and applied biomedical research in Pakistan.
